There's an op-ed article that explains to straight women that Holtzmann is a lesbian and "not for you." Those words exactly. I think it's even the title of the piece. It's a given that white women are hearing the same message about Patty.

"Not for you" doesn't mean "you can't touch her". It means "you're not the target audience". If you like her, great! If you don't like her, or think she'd be better if she was prettier or more traditionally feminine or not so nerdy or nerdy in the exact way you are...that doesn't matter, because she wasn't written and played to appeal specifically to you, she was designed for a different part of the audience.

Which is some bullshit because 1, if a character appeals to you they appeal to you, and 2, people IN those "target audiences" can still think the character written with them in mind would be more appealing if they changed something.
