Re: Are you excited for fall?

I like fall, but fall in coastal southern California is kind of a different beast from commercialized fall, or fall in the northeast. The leaves don't change colors here, on deciduous trees they mostly turn brown and then drop when or if we get heavy rain, and a lot of other stuff is evergreen. The flat, Cinderella's carriage pumpkins that make good eating do well down here, better than tasteless stringy ones bred for jack o' lanterns, but since the drought really got going I haven't planted any.

Okay, I lied. I love fall, but only when it's the start of our rainy season like it's supposed to be and not the start of another dry year. I'm optimistically soaking snap peas and put out some wildflower seeds--last year was supposed to be monster El Niño and we got squat, so maybe this year, which is supposed to be super dry, will bring the deluge.

And yeah, I love Halloween. I need to get working on my costume and stock up on pumpkins and candy. I have a big copper cauldron I fill with candy for trick or treaters.
