He probably counts as a white minority to some people, because he's a redhead.

But in this case those people shouldn't have a problem with Hux either.

Especially since the guy who plays Hux played Ron's older brother?

I also think with Ron that there may be a thing that he was one of the "Good Guys", had plenty of detail about him in the books, was Harry's best friend, so some people who were Ron fans get salty that the popular pairing for Ron was the rival-ship with the little shit Draco and not a friend-ship with Ron.

On a personal note? When I first got into HP, H/D was what drew me in because I do find rival-ships interesting. Some friend-ships however are so boring to me that I can't even consider them, and Harry/Ron is one of those sort of ships.

*Popular pairing for Harry - that is.

I mean,of course, there are white minorities etc. in Europe and anti-Irish sentiment in Britain was no joke. But I doubt very much that the people in question were talking about anything like this.

True there, in the argument between Ron and Draco, it is probably nothing to do with race involved in the debate of which is "better" paired with Harry.

Although if you were desperate, you could probably rant yourself a case together with Ron's alleged Irish roots (which is questionable at best, the Weasleys as a whole seem to be intentionally Englisher-than-thou, and Rowling is usually extremely obvious when someone is in any way other) and Draco being a wannabe quasi-Nazi.

It would be much easier to make a classist argument, but delusional shippers will do what delusional shippers have to do.
