As much as I don't think it's the majority, the migratory slash fandom (it's not just slash, either- het ships have their samey, tropey ships just as much) is definitely a thing that exists.

Oh definitely. I'm in a couple of the migratory slash fandoms and I'll run across fics where the characters are just completely non-recognizable but they'll have so many kudos' and so many comments. Id fic is powerful, haha.
