true trans turmoils

I don't really get what trans head canons are. Is it people deciding a character is trans or should be? Is this a common thing?

Sorry, OP. I don't have anything constructive to say because I know just enough about trans people to know I don't know anything. It seems a very personal and individualised journey to me. I can understand fans wanting to explore that with characters, I just didn't know it was a thing.

It's the trendy new fetish. Pretty common, though it depends on the fandom.

There are both versions: people who just like to imagine a character as trans but also those who blow a fuse if someone else doesn't share their headcanon as fact.

boy howdy thats a lot of text

(Anonymous) 2016-09-27 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Even the TL;DR needs a TL;DR

(Anonymous) 2016-09-26 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's always tagged"
Fuck no it's not and that's my main problem with it.
And boohoo, not everyone treasures and loves trans headcanons. Clearly, this means people are all transphobic!

(Anonymous) 2016-09-26 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
No one is saying you have to love trans headcanons, but yeah, as a trans person I'm not even gonna lie a lot of the whinging I see about it on F!S specifically is pretty transphobic. Just fucking ignore it, it's not that hard.

I've also never, ever run into an untagged trans fic, which I would love to honestly, but people bring this up like it's some epidemic instead of a few rogue stragglers. Usually people want to get as wide of an audience to read it as they can, and when it comes to special interest stuff like this, be it trans, a certain kink, whatever, it gets tagged so people can search for it specifically.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-27 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Disagreeing with you =/= transphobic

And yeah, it's pretty hard to ignore sometimes.

And yes, clearly, because you haven't run into it a lot, it's totally just a small minority! Once again, your anecdotal evidence trumps other people's anecdotal evidence!

(Anonymous) 2016-09-27 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT don't mind me, just butting in.

Well it's pretty obvious you want your anecdotal evidence to trump theirs lmfao.

How is it hard to ignore? Come the fuck on, cis on cis dick is the vast, vast majority of slash fandom. Are you really trying to tell me it's hard to ignore the smattering of trans stuff out there?

I'm saying this as somebody who could take or leave trans headcanons. If the fic is good I'll read it regardless but it's not like I go looking for it.

You just sound like sour grapes tbh. People like you sound like you wouldn't be happy unless there was zero trans stuff, or if it didn't "infect" your fandom experience by...being out in the open with the rest of the slash.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-27 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
No I'm not. Op brought up the anecdotal stuff in the not-secret, and considering he keeps going on with "I've never seen it so it doesn't exist" despite being completely aware that anecdotal evidence means shit, it pretty hypocritical.

And sure, it's easy to ignore in some fandoms, but others are pretty full with untagged trans headcanons (like Voltron, for example, where you get people harassing you for not subscribing to the "Pidge is trans" headcanon).

And quite honestly, getting harassed for this bullshit does sour the grapes quite considerably.

TFW you skip to the TL:DR summary only to realize that it's still twice as long as a normal secret.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-26 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
??? No it's not. It's one paragraph, and then a P.S. which is an entirely separate thought at the bottom.

(Anonymous) 2016-09-27 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Considering most secrets are a sentance or two - not to mention tl;drs are usually very brief summaries, its still too long imo

(Anonymous) 2016-09-27 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone else get the feeling that TERF anon was just looking to stir up another wanky trans-thread?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-28 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Mmhmm.
