I think what I'm trying to get at here is, how much of this has to do with your belief that their certainty is unfounded? Is it the "unfounded" part of the definition that rubs you the wrong, or the part where it has to do with morality?

*boggles* It has nothing to do with whether or not it's unfounded. It's the attitude of smugness and intolerance. Do you honestly not understand this?

Dictionary.com:
confident of one's own righteousness, especially when smugly moralistic and intolerant of the opinions and behavior of others
