While AVP as a concept can and has proven fruitful (especially in games) the movies were hot garbage.

I still enjoy the AvP movies even if they are a hot mess but I also kind of divorce them from any of the Predator or Alien movie canons in my head.

Prometheus on the other hand I just couldn't enjoy at all.

I'm curious about this, too. Nothing in AVP said the Predators created the Xenomorphs. I just figured they found them somewhere, and decided to take them to various planets to hunt. Especially since they modify themselves based on the DNA of the creatures they're born from. Nothing in Prometheus contradicts this.

And Prometheus was a much worse film...

Exactly. They must've found the Xenos and just taken advantage. Prometheus did not wipe out AvP. Ffs, we've got Fire and Stone from it!
