I get why this might seem like a good solution to avoid conflict, but there's a high risk of it coming back to bite you on the ass, OP. Not to mention that leading people to believe that you sympathize with them is only going to get you more political stuff from both sides. It might be hard, but learning how to make boundaries and teach other people to respect them will serve you much better in the long run, for everything.
