It was the fact that they kept going by old!school Goku and the like. The new stuff has him so powerful that he's basically a god. That and he gets stringer all the time. Superman is basically finite in his "power levels" and if you get him away from the sun's rays, he's wrecked regardless. Goku doesn't have those limitations.

From a technical standpoint, it should be Goku from the start.

I hate Superman, period, but I was always pissed at that video (videos now) because, personally, they picked Superman because they like him more.

I was curious, so I went and watched the Goku vs. Superman. Apparently they made a new one - this one features god!Goku.
It sounds like the root of their argument is the opposite of yours, that Superman's abilities are actually infinite, whereas Goku's aren't. ...I don't actually know enough about either character to argue it, but that just demonstrates what I said. By and large, these people aren't some kind of magical gurus, they're fans with their own biases. So watching the ones where the character you think should win wins seems like a good plan to me.

I think both of those were well done. Especially Cloud vs Link. There's just no way Cloud could have won. He honestly wasn't "nerfed"--he's just not the logical winner.

For goodness' sake, they only gave him like two materia.
I'm not going to get into the argument, because I don't have time for that right now, but if that looked okay to you what can I say - you're an example of why everything is subjective and based on whims.
It could be that Cloud would have lost anyway - Cloud's neither the strongest hero evar, nor the smartest. He's mostly very good at soldiering on in the face of very bad odds and his own broken psyche (part of what makes him endearing, to my mind). But giving him two materia, weak stats, and his starter weapon is kind of bullshit.
