Upcoming birthday question

(Anonymous) 2016-09-28 11:16 pm (UTC)(link)
What are good things for a sad loser with no (local) friends to do on their middle of the week birthday?

Make yourself a cake and eat it in front of your favourite tv show? (Actually this is my birthday ideal...)

Buy yourself a present - be it a nice pair of shoes, or a fandom thing, or a ridiculously large piece of cake. Maybe skype with your non-local friends.

Whatever you like. Figure out what you'd like to do if your friends were around and do it by yourself if possible. If that's a nice meal, whether at a restaurant or at home, then do that. If it's the cinema or the theater, do that. If you want cake, get cake. If you want a present, and your family/friends get you one ask one of them to mail it to you instead of giving it next time you meet up. Or you can just buy yourself something nice.

I don't think I've ever spent my birthday alone, though this year it was just dinner and a movie with my brother. But last year I celebrated Christmas Eve and New Year's Day with people and Christmas Day and New Year's Eve alone, and I enjoyed the latter two a lot more. Because I could unapologetically do whatever I wanted.

Have yourself a day just for you with all the stuff you like. Happy birthday!

google free birthday things in your city and see if anything appeals. You could end up with free coffee, free doughnuts, free ice cream, free meals, free booze, etc.

Treat yourself! I know not everyone is comfortable with eating out alone, but if you are, do that! If not, no problem, order take out and relax, splurge on a meal you wouldn't normally get.

Definitely get a cake or ice cream, again get yourself something you enjoy. If you have to work during the day and if you like your coworkers decently enough, bring a batch of cookies in and tell them it's for your birthday and you'll get tons of birthday wishes.

Call one of your nonlocal friends and just have a nice conversation.

Happy early birthday!

Take yourself out for a nice dinner - don't worry about eating alone, I do it all the time. Bring something to read.

Go out to see a movie or a play.

See if any museums are open that evening and go to one.

Buy a super-fancy cupcake.

Spend the evening watching your favorite shows/movies at home.

Last time that happened to me, I went to a bar for dinner and then went to an evening movie. Was tired the next day, but so worth it.
