Drunk mom anon checking in--I'm so frustrated with trying to get her care for non-drinking related stuff. It's like she drinks so somehow she's not eligible for home health care, hospice, or our county's senior help despite having three types of cancer, lungs full of blood clots (from cancer, not smoking, she doesn't smoke), pneumonia, and a wound in her leg that hasn't healed in a month and a half. I've been on the phone with county senior services, the local police department, wound care nurses, her health insurance provider...

Also people act like I shouldn't need respite care because she's a drunk so I'd be totally justified in walking away for good. But even if alcoholism wasn't a disease, she still has cancer and pneumonia and a firebombed immune system from chemo. Her drinking doesn't negate her needing care for everything else. And I can't do it all.
