This. Breaking into the industry is a hell of a lot of hard work, and frequently involves getting a lot of training so that you can do a hell of a lot of coffee runs or swap out camera batteries and dead bulbs while sidelining in indie projects that you, at least at first, pretty much have to pass the hat around to fund. Building the connections to be put on - let alone put in charge of - a significant portion of a major project takes years.
