What kind of kid were you growing up?

(Anonymous) 2016-09-30 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Not in regards to school but at home. Were you the good kid? The little rebel? The tiny adult? The quiet one? The outgoing kid?

The weird quiet kid who had no friends. I think other kids probably thought I was a nerd because I was quiet and awkward and friendless, but I didn't have good grades, and tended to get in trouble despite not meaning to (sometimes I didn't even know what I was in trouble for).

I was oddly both mature for my age and immature. I think a lot of this was being an only child - so on one hand, I was around adults most of the time and understood what was going on in the world and stuff; on the other hand, I never really had to... fend for myself? And also because I was around adults most of the time, I was indoctrinated into the less innocent side of life later than a lot of kids, which led to a little embarrassment here and there.

The quiet kid. The good kid (mostly). The kid who never had anyone over because I didn't have friends. The kid who stayed in my room on my computer whenever I could. The depressed kid with anxiety issues. The chocoholic kid because I was self-medicating my depression with chocolate.

My brother and I were lucky to have very easy-going, laid-back parents, and in return they were lucky that we were the most boring, non-rebellious kids there were. I was never punished because I never did anything. I didn't have assigned chores but I helped out where I could because I liked to feel helpful.

It's funny, because we've been having these discussions at work and I realized how lucky I am because my parents never disciplined us because there was no need for it. And my mom and I were talking about it because both her and my dad were raised without much discipline and they turned out okay.

I told a coworker I never had a curfew and she said when she was 18, her curfew was still 8PM and I just couldn't believe it, considering I was staying out until midnight at 12!

I think I vacillated between noisy brat and quiet bookworm, weirdly enough. I always tried to get out of doing chores, and never listened to what my parents told me to do. I used to stay up until 3 in the morning reading giant fantasy novels and then be late for school because I couldn't wake up. Looking back, I feel bad for my parents.

Nerdy and bookish, very quiet in front of adults and people I didn't know. But I had plenty of friends who thought I was weird in a good way.

I was an extremely serious and worried child. I was always the 'mother' of any group of friends.

At home? The mediator. I always tried to get in between fights between my mom/dad/brother (in whatever combination) because I really thought I could fix everyone's problems all by myself.

I was the "good kid" too, which kind of ties into the mediator thing. If I was good all the time, then no one would have to fight over me.

It's weird: looking back, no one even fought that much, and certainly not to the extent that it should have upset me as much as it did.

My oldest sister was the smart kid, next sister was the Good kid, younger brother #1 was the kind fat kid, younger sister was the Best kid, youngest brother was the weird stubborn kid. I was the family clown/crazy kid/weirdo.

Quiet, bookish, kind of weird.

A mix between quiet, smart, and budget weird. I was never one of those girls named Kelsey who loved horses too much but I could have been.

Bookish, sheltered and increasingly angry.

I was a weird kid who made a lot of messes. I liked taking things out of closets, taking things apart, and trying to improve whatever my parents were cooking without consulting them (I was sure beef stew would taste better with chocolate and sugar). I was a bookworm and used to read all night. I seriously believed in aliens and junk (I would've loved Ancient Aliens) and I was always the first one to volunteer for a dare. I have a bunch of scars from jumping off random things and racing my bike down steep hills. I was friends with all the kids on my street until we got to middle school and I was suddenly too weird to hang out with.

The weird quiet kid who had a very vivid and strange imagination, who also found it tough to make friends because of said weirdness(I just did not have a good brain to mouth filter as a kid).

I guess the tiny adult but without the social graces. I always liked to talk to the adults and it never really occurred to me to be a rebel - I rarely wanted to do anything outside the rules, and being a rebel for its own sake has always struck me as a bit silly.

I talked waaaaaaay too much, and too loudly.

Shy, analytical, hyper as hell, and pretty weird

I think if I didn't have my older brother as an example, I would have been a huge brat. Him and I were together 24/7.

The fat, mildly nerdy girl who had a crush on the good-looking guy in the class as was a total weirdo because of it.
