People who stand directly in the middle of the escalator.

fffffyes. If I get stuck behind them, I will always say a very blunt and annoyed "excuse me" until they move.
Also in Korea - you get people blocking the "walk" side of the escalator, and I would get up behind them and go CHOISONGHAMNIDA

God, seriously. And when people are scattered all throughout the escalator. That was hard to come back home to from Tokyo, where people stand on one side to wait, and leave the other side clear for those who are in a rush.

...? you don't move on an escalator? if you're in a hurry, take the stairs

I live in Vancouver, and we definitely walk up escalators here. Escalators are everywhere and some of them are really long, and yes, many of us are in a hurry.

The etiquette is to stand on one side (usually the right), and leave the left open for people to walk down. But there are still a fair few people who are either tourists and therefore don't know the etiquette, or are just rude. And because we are Canadians, when someone stands on the wrong side of the escalator, the person who comes down behind them often won't pluck up the nerve to say anything to get them to move aside, which just causes the escalator to become more and more backed up, annoying everyone.

No, you don't move on the escalator, and if you plonk your ass right in the middle instead of moving to one side like everyone else who doesn't move, you're going to make someone miss their connection. If you need to ensure that no one is moving any faster than you, take the elevator.

I don't know about other people, but sometimes - especially on downward escalators - I need to hold onto both handrails, because despite having pretty good control of it, I do still have a fear of heights, and downward escalators are one of the things that most commonly trigger it (it's a fear of slipping and falling down them).

Honestly, if I see someone holding both handrails I usually assume they have some sort of mobility or balance issue and try not to be a dick about it. Most people standing in the middle aren't even holding a handrail, they're just playing with their phones or chatting.
