Re: Bouncing off of the professor question...

I mentioned this in a comment on the other thread, but I had a professor who was kind of like Michael Scott in that I think he meant well, but he wanted to be "hip" and just had no idea how uncomfortable he made us sometimes. Not that he harassed anyone or anything, but he'd drop the F bomb at least once a class just to drop it - I'm fine with the F bomb, it was more the way he did, like he was a twelve year old screaming "PENIS." Except he was a 85 year old man, so it was actually like your drunk grandfather repeatedly saying "fuck" and nudging you playfully. He also very blatantly played favorites, both with specific students and when it came to what they wrote.

In retrospect I wonder how much he legitimately meant well, and how much he was actually a jerk who got a free pass because everyone thought he meant well, and because he was a good professor who knew his stuff. Even I gave him a pass because of those things, and that's why I never reported him. Now I sort of wish I'd at least said something to my advisor, though, because that's really not okay.
