Re: Open endings

I think I generally like a carefully crafted, thought-provoking open ending more than a strictly conclusive ending. I think something has to be resolved, or it isn't an ending, but if it's engaging enough where the reader has to use their imagination and make their own theories, I love that.

But on the other hand, some open endings are just pretentious and lazy. I'd rather have everything wrapped up perfectly than for there to be no resolution at all.

I also hate series endings when it's clear it just didn't get renewed for another season, and either they tried to force a big resolution in a twenty minute episode, or just don't "end" it at all.
