Re: Bouncing off of the professor question...

My first ever painting professor was a bad teacher and a bully. She didn't teach us - like, literally. Oil painting does have some basic techniques you should learn, like use of mediums, paint thinners, how to clean your brush, etc - and she never taught us any of that. I asked her questions, and she would snap at me to "just do it and expect it to look bad". I had to turn to youtube tutorials to learn anything. She taught us exactly one day - a day she was being observed. Other than that, nothing, and she would leave early every day too!

And then, I had a friend who I would talk to in the class (and sometimes we would complain that she wasn't teaching us, she might have overheard) but I didn't talk to many other people in the class. My friend had some other friends, but I just kinda didn't. I didn't hate them or anything, I'm just quiet. Well, one day near the end of the semester me and my friend both skipped class cause we were done with our paintings. The next class my professor took us both outside and told us that when we skipped at least half the class, maybe more, had gone up to her and told her they HATED us and told her how annoying we were, and "oh I just wanted to tell you so you can work on making a better impression".

I was horrified. I didn't know what I could have done to make them hate me. I didn't talk to them much, but I felt I was polite when I did. And if I had done something, why hadn't they brought it up to me? One of my biggest fears is people secretly hating me and talking about me behind my back, so I had to go to the bathroom to cry, but my friend who was closer to the other people started asking around to the other people she was friends with.

They all said not only had they not said that, over half the class along with us had skipped that day cause we all finished early (ps that was not a common occurrence but I guess everyone was getting burned out near the end of the semester), so there was no way over half the class could have told her that in person that day. (When I came back they also told me they didn't think I was annoying and had never heard anyone else mentioning it).

So tl;dr I had a teacher who didn't teach us then apparently lied and told me everyone hated me when I had it on better authority that wasn't true.

I didn't do much except leave her a bad evaluation after the class was over.
