Re: Bouncing off of the professor question...

My grade 12 bio teacher had a 60% failure rate for his Bio courses (the school asked the head of the bio dept, also the grade 10 bio teacher to do the course the next year and she refused--pretty sure she only ever taught Bio 10). He had that high a failure rate because most of his tests were the highlight vocab words with multiple guess for their meanings. He told one class how to cut someone's head off with a piece of paper. One time in class, he told me to go stand in the corner (he'd told us to be quiet and caught me as I turned around from talking to the girl behind me). I gave a quavering "no". He asked if I was defying him. I repeated, "no". And he went on with class. He liked kids that stood up to him--and I would've gone to the office before standing in the corner. I was 18.

My parents owned a corner store when I was a kid--and this same teacher came in one night and rented porn movies from me. And of course I told everyone the next day at school. I mean seriously, there was a video store up the road he could've gone to instead.... I'm not sure he even realised I was one of his students. Although he was strange enough to have known and gotten some perverse thrill out of it. I dunno.

And when I was in grade 6, our main teacher was also the Vice Principal, but our VP wasn't full time, so they hired another teacher to teach us when he was in the office each day. Our class was SO mean to her. I don't remember much beyond the fact we seemed to decide as a group that we really didn't like her and it got to the point where they took each of us out of class one at a time to ask why we didn't like her/what the problem was. I can't remember what, if anything changed after that. She was a fairly new teacher, too. I'm pretty sure if she survived us, she could handle anything.

Oh, and at community college, when I took my receptionist course, the typing teacher had horrendous body odor. She didn't wear ANY deodorant and I'm pretty sure she didn't actually wash her clothes. It wasn't fresh sweat, but that horrid days old sweat smell. If you asked her a question and she came over to talk to you, you took a deep breath, held it and hoped she talked really fast. And it was funny, in our main business class, that instructor was talking about how one has to be neat and tidy and clean--bathe every day, etc. One of the other girls in class asked if this teacher had ever worked with anyone who didn't bathe regularly. The teacher looked right at her and said, "No." I think we all got a laugh out of that one.
