AYRT

You're asking some good questions here. Yeah, if I remember correctly, the clock, candle thingie, teapot etc. were all servants. Where is his family or any kind of responsible adult or guardian? It's been decades since I've read or rather heard the original story. Maybe I should check, if I have that book around somewhere. Also kinda petty for the witch to curse a child, wo was probably just a little dick because his parents raised him like that.

Belle and the Beast are supposed to be close in age though, aren't they? Why not go for an older actress in that case, would've made more sense to me.

About Belle and the Beast and their ages... In some versions, the Beast doesn't age while he's cursed, but he was already an adult when he was. Robin McKinley's Beauty (which may be where Disney Belle gets her outsider bookworm status from, since McKinley's Beauty-published in 1978- says "I didn't know there were so many books in the world," is a scholarly outsider, and brings her horse to the Beast's castle) has the Beast cursed as a young man and age a year for every decade he spent cursed, so he ends up in his 40s.

That's interesting. I think I only ever knew the original French story. But even if he's cursed and ages differently, he should still look much younger than his actual age in that case, shouldn't he? Unless the time frame is centuries instead of decades.

In McKinley's story, the Beast had been cursed for centuries, which helps explain why the closest villagers' stories are about creepy stuff in the forest and not, say, the local nobility all vanishing unexpectedly when a humongous furry beast showed up.
