This. I think both Mary and Paul addressed her habit of frequently blurting out "OH MY GOD I'M SO SORRY IT'S BURNT/RAW/NOT FINISHED AND IT'S TERRIBLE IT'S A DISGRACE BLAH BLAH BLAH I DIDN'T HAVE TIME AND IT'S AWFUL SO AWFUL WOE IS ME" as soon as they walked up. They did it very kindly, of course. But it was a bad habit and rather unprofessional not to let the judges get a word in edgewise (or actually TRY THE BAKE) first before you barrage them with your sob story.

Yeah, everyone's got a life they're trying to balance with bake off, with jobs, families and/or school. In series one, James was going through medical school. Martha was studying for her exams. Ruby's degree in philosophy (lol) wasn't anything more than what previous contestants had to deal with, but she complained the most.
