Sorry hijacking this thread for the science: there's a slight appreciable difference between the way your body metabolizes carbonated vs. non-carbonated alcohols in the strictest biochemical sense. For carbonated beverages, they enter the bloodstream slightly faster. The exact mechanism is unclear.

There are only a few genetic factors I can think of for a faster spike of alcohol making you sick, and the primary one is an alcohol dehydrogenase deficiency. Now, as far as I know this is generally limited to people of Asian descent rather than Native descent, but I don't know how much research has actually been done on that population and whether or not there might be a polymorphism in other ethanol metabolizing enzymes that might actually be responsible for beer making you feel sicker after drinking beer.

So, it's still a mystery, but less of one! You're actually getting more alcohol quicker when you drink alcohol with carbonation. So, stay away from the fizzy cocktails and champagne and always use moderation and you should at least be able to avoid some side effects.

Champagne doesn't give me anything close to the same reaction though tbh
