Moniack mead is usually a pretty good one. There are lots of small makers and varieties (lightly spiced and mead fermented with walnut are good too) and everyone is pretty different, but Moniack is a good middle of the road mead to start off with. It has a nice thickness to the liqueur, you don't want one that is as liquid as wine or a spirit, it should be ever so slightly syrupy in the glass.
