Because people love to rubber-neck when something awful is happening, and SVU has survived thanks to its titillating subject matter.

I admit, it's a guilty pleasure for me. Especially when I play "spot the 'headline' stories that inspired this episode".

It is SO on the nose these days. The anti-vaxxer one, and Gamergate, and the Chris Brown/Rhianna one. Ugh.
