I don't like high percentage alcohol except for whiskey. So I mostly drink wine and beer.
the wine you had, if it's really just like juice, could be it was "new wine", so basically grape juice that's in the process of fermentation.
it's in season right now, and if your octoberfest is very german inspired, then it's even more likely, because it's apparently a german thing.
