Are you surrounded by art/film nerds?
fishnchips: (Eh)

Yeah, I get the feeling. I love both movies a lot - they're great each in their own right but I actually like Mag7 a bit more. (I also have a hard time watching 7 Samurai because black and white movies strain my eyes a lot.)

I'm mostly annoyed that those people who bring up 7 Samurai in every conversation about Mag7 almost always pretend/seem to think they are the only cineastically educated people who know that Mag7 is a remake of 7 Samurai. They always say it in this massively condescending way and it ticks me off. No, you are not the only person who knows this. Yes, it's possible to talk about Mag7 without mentioning "it is a remake of 7 Samurai" as an aside.

(I'm even sure that one or two of the people who did this only pretended to have watched the original...)

Only vaguely-related, but you typing 7 Samurai is really distracting me, because my first exposure to those movies/remakes was through Samurai 7, which is the anime&robots version of The Seven Samurai.

Ah, yes I kept thinking about that myself. I'm on mobile, so I was too lazy to type "Seven" all the time.
I liked that adaption quite a lot as well!

I remember seeing an amazingly pretentious tumblr post with this screenshot saying "this shot is EVERYTHING you need to know about character design." Really. Everything? Wow... that's amazing.

People need to hop off Kurosawa's dick in general. 90% of the time I see his name it's in the context of transparent nerd posturing in an attempt to look intellectual and cultured. I have 0 doubts he's a great director, but praise for him is so obligatory if you want to look like a Good Film Geek that it's annoying.

(...PS, if you like Kurosawa, I'm not attacking you.)

"Yes, congratulations, we have acknowledged your pop culture cred, can we move on?"

(Anonymous) 2016-10-02 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I confess, I did recently tell someone this. To be fair, she had just seen a poster for the new Magnificent 7 film and said, "Oh, it's a remake of the TV show!", and I just... couldn't let that stand.

Magnificent 7 gets extra bonus points for the score, though.

Which one?

(Anonymous) 2016-10-03 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
The new one or the 1960 version?

Bit early for the new one to be anyone's all-time favorite yet probably
