American politics

[personal profile] caerbannog 2016-10-02 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Ameripol? Do you guys have a portmanteau or slang for it? Anyway, I have tired sleep deprived questions cause your Trump is all over our news. All the time.

Is he like, going to get done for tax evasion? surely you can't have a president who hasn't paid taxes?

How much longer until you guys get to vote. How long are your polls open for?

The lawyers I've heard from say what he did was totally legal. It could still hurt him with people who don't like that he took advantage of the loopholes he did. But some people will actually like that he gamed the system.

Early voting has already started in some states but election day proper is November 8th. I should really look up how late they stay open.

Election Day is November 8th and the polls are opened varied times, most close around 8PM or 9PM that day, plus there's all the absentee ballots they sometimes count, it's weird.

I can't wait until this election is over and I'm American.

Again, it varies based on the polling place, but I think mine are either 6AM to 8PM or 7AM to 8PM. Part of the reasoning is that we don't have off to vote.

Nobody thinks he broke the law. He just took advantage of the law in a way that is seen as shameful and calculating and selfish (and also calls into question some of his other narratives about his wealth).

Also, I reckon the main benefit of the story is that it sounds bad for him and it prevents him from trying to control the narrative and that kind of thing.

Polling day is November 8th - so six weeks from this coming Tuesday - but vote-by-mail and early voting and stuff should start soon.

I honestly hope Trump gets elected US president, but only because I want UK politics to stop being the biggest political shitshow in the western world again. I really liked it when we could at least be superior to Americans in not having the dumbest and most fucked up result of attempted democracy.

As long as we count Italy as part of the Western world, I think both the US and UK will be safe from holding that title

Now, if you mean the Anglosphere specifically...

The true voice of the Hillary campaign, censorship, silencing, and insults. Yep, you are soooooo different from Trump.

Yeah, this seems like a reasonable conclusion to draw

?

(Anonymous) 2016-10-03 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
NA

censorship, silencing, and insults

Insults - Yes, very much so.
Silencing - No, they didn't even write shut up.
Censorship - Absolutely not. Do you even understand what this is?

Wishing something bad on someone else so that you don't have to look bad. Classy.

If you're a Republican and you commit tax fraud, you're their equivalent of Robin Hood. I wish I was kidding. He will suffer no consequences because of this.

Voting starts October 24th for me. I will vote early to beat the rush. Voting is comfy as heck in my neighborhood. Short lines if any, a choice of voting booth and it's all in the grocery store, so I can get a donut on the way out.

So far the only thing that actually might be illegal is the Trump Charity that might not actually even be an authorized charity and the using it like a piggy bank.

The taxes seem to all be legal, he's just using every loophole he could and super scummy because of how much he complains about "little people" not paying their fair share and living off the government. Plus losing almost a billion in a year doesn't make you look like that great a businessman.

Trump lost so much money in 1995 that he could legally use it to offset all of his gains until 2013. Turns out he's not really that good at this whole "business" thing.

I don't have answers, but I'm sorry US politics is all over your news. I don't know why other countries are so obsessed with our election.

Re: American politics

Maybe it is because every time America shits its bed, everyone else has to wash the sheets.

Re: American politics

(Anonymous) 2016-10-03 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
So fuck off and stop washing the sheets.

NAYRT--I'm American, and if we only shit our own bed, it'd be one thing, but we're like Goldilocks with diarrhea; we gotta try out every bed in the world and shit in all of 'em.
