Honestly that's most a reaction to the shippers way back when. I didn't ship it (shipped James/Sirius, sort of), and the whole "almost canon" thing that was running around really bugged me. And it would show up everywhere, it would be in fics completely untagged, and it just gradually became a NOTP for me.
