I repeat: So what?

It's offensive that this fantasy picture is being used to incite political divisions in the present day. If Tasmania started using Yahoo Serious's ahistorical Albert Einstein as a symbol, that'd be funny. If they then said that they were breaking free of Australia because Albert Einstein & rock & roll, that'd be bizarre.

But it's actually more offensive because Braveheart tries to pass itself off as real history when it's not even close to a realistic portrayal of historical Scotland. It's a bit like an old western but with the natives in kilts. It's slightly more "historical" than Kevin Sorbo's Hercules.

The thing is, I like spaghetti westerns, and I liked Braveheart. But as history it's a vile bag of lies.

I know your Tasmania example is for exaggeration effect, but it amuses me because Tassie has never been separatist, and Aussies as a whole are too laid back.

Well put.

It's fine that a movie like this exists and can be enjoyable, but it has been taken way too seriously for the amount it disregards actual history.
