The main part of FMA (in the anime anyway) takes place in a world quite similar to ours, only alchemy moved forward as a science and modern chemistry never evolved. Anyway, when all is said and done, two characters end up spat out into our world...shortly before WWII. The timeframes match, and the mysticalness of it all would be epic.

Take a look at the show if you find the time, it's good stuff. I was purposely vague enough in describing it so that I didn't really spoiler ya.
