lollll agreed on the clothing designs. I am also okay with Yohji being dark-haired; it looks really good on him.

However, I DEMAND that they retain the extremely ridiculous and bizarre official art. They can use them as the "see you next week" title cards or something.
Darker than Black style could work! Anything that's pretty sleek, I think.

I mean, if we're fantasizing here, I would like some updates to the storylines. Either make it full-out ridiculous in terms of the ~~**ebulness**~~ of the bad guys (maybe give it an almost parody tweak?), especially in the one-off episodes, or find a slightly fresher way to be gritty. I remember when I was watching Psycho-Pass, one of the reasons I wasn't impressed was by some of the villainy, which felt repetitive already. I swear there were villains who were the exact same as in WK.
Then again, obviously they're all drawing from the same background in horror in Japanese cinema etc etc.

Absolutely. I mean it's still going to be ridiculous with the whole "flower shop boys by day, killers by night" but art-wise, it really also needs the callbacks to the old campy art.

I would like to request a few name changes. All those silly random German words for the bad guys' organisations was insanely cringey. (Krankenhaus -hospital- for the organ trafficking ring? Really?). At least tone it down a little haha.

Yeah, Psycho Pass has a lot of the same grotesque horror roots, as does Ranpo Kitan: Game of Laplace, for example. I guess they'd need to go more realistic/gritty or completely OTT ridiculous.
(And maybe actually modernise the setting. I read somewhere that the show was supposed to take place quite a bit in the future? It sure didn't seem that way...)

Well, again with the names - if they wanted to keep the silly German, they've got to go full-on DBZ with that shit. Make it truly ridiculous.

I think that the most interesting combination (for me) would be a sort of violent-gritty-humorous type thing. Something tonally similar to Blood Blockade Battlefront, or the manga Dorohedoro. Like, be ridiculous but *own* it, and plow through that to the seriousness.

Huh, you're right about the setting. I had no idea that was supposed to be futuristic O_O then again, at this point with Psycho-Pass being a thing, I'm not sure they should go future, unless they really shake up their theme so it doesn't just look samey.

What still attracts me to WK after all this time is the OTT of it all, but also the contradictions. It's ostensibly a "pretty guys" fanservicey type thing, but then you've got all the body horror and melodrama and whatnot. And if they'd actually had a budget of more than 2 yen, it would have been really violent, too.

Yes, gritty, violent, genre-savvy humour sounds like the perfect mix for. They actually had tiny shades of that in the show, it just got drowned under the whole melodrama that got played too straight.

It was pretty full up with contrasts that didn't necessarily make any sense - like how they apparently couldn't really decide what genre the show fit into. Was it action? Mystery? Thriller? Bishonen fanservice? And then, when Schwarz (and the lady team... Schreient? I almost forgot about them) showed up with their psychic powers... it was so weird.

In general, I'd like a little less melodrama, I think. Just a little less.

Having it be a little more genre-savvy and humorous would solve a lot of the melodrama issues, I think. I mean, sure, have literally EVERYBODY be a Takatori - and then have somebody go WHY IS EVERYBODY A TAKATORI. Have them come across some random barista or something who's also a Takatori.

And I agree with you, if they tone down on the melodrama, some of those storylines would actually be kind of touching. I always liked the weird little romance between Nagi and the girl from Schreient (Toto?).

Also btw, my headcanon always was that Aya's superpower or whatever is that he's actually immune to being psychically affected by stuff. Like, he disbelieves it so strongly that it actually doesn't affect him (which reinforces his disbelief). And also explains some of why he was so capable at fighting Schwartz.

And yeah, definitely right about the show having no idea what genre it even was XD fixing that would probably go a long way.

Also they should totally lampshade the fact that both Aya and Omi have these massive tragic backstories, and Yohji and Ken are a lot... less. Like Yohji is so normal, man.

Nagi and Tot (oh hell, I think her name was actually Tot) and Yohji and Asuka(?) were the only romances that actually had any merit. Everything else was so ridiculously forced, it was cringey as hell.

Hm, I don't know. Yohji had the whole thing with his dead girlfriend/partner who then popped up as a brainwashed version of herself in Schreient. That was pretty tragic as well.

Ken, in comparison, had the least tragic sobstory I guess. And yet he kinda snapped the worst. Though I really liked how... unhinged he was in Glühen. That was actually pretty interesting! In general, it could also be an improvement if they gave the characters slightly more realistic human emotions and reactions. I felt like there was generally too much or too little emotion in relation to the situations they found themselves in.

Come on, I mean half of Aya's dialogue was TAKATORIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!

The thing with the other romances though is that played right, they would be less a romance and more a bid for normalcy- and realizing they no longer can be normal. It would work with Ken especially, I think, precisely *because* he doesn't have that tragic backstory. He's doing it 'cause he likes it. Maybe it could even be a misplaced "I should want to be normal" thing, but then realizing that he just... isn't.
And then you'd have initially him and Yohji seeming the ones without the tragic backstory, then Yohji's girlfriend pops up in Schreient and everything gets way tragic, and they all look at Ken and he's like "nope, that's it. I was just left for dead and now I'm an assassin because I can".
And I agree with you that his snapping in Gluhen was interesting - and it could be tied into this type of arc, with Ken being the one with the "least" reason to fight, and yet still being super into it.

What we're saying here is basically, let's have the characters be proper characters and not tropes, let's give them character arcs, and let's execute them well XD

Though tbh, in the current haremy mindset where little sisters only show up to be love interests, it could be vaguely refreshing to have them be in love, actually discover they're related, and then not be together with none of the moe bullshit.

Did Aya even have a love interest at any point? I don't remember.

I think they even might have tried for that with Ken's "romance" subplot, it just was so badly executed that it didn't really show. It did seem a lot like a futile attempt at normalcy he couldn't really have anymore.

I absolutely agree that Omi's weird romance could be scrapped and nothing of value would be lost.

So in general: less tropes, better quality, amped up grittiness and genre-savvyness. It could be so nice. So sad it will never happen...

... hm. I think he had this weird subplot with the girl who reminded him of his sister (the one who was supposed to look after Aya-chan in at the end?) and I think it had this weird "is this supposed to be romance or just his sister complex acting up" vibe again. But it's been a while, I'm not entirely sure...

Yeah, there was a subplot like that. It... could work, though in this revamped-version of the series it would probably depend on what Aya's character arc is, and whether that contributes anything to it.

Now I'm really bummed that this series we're imagining doesn't (and will never) exist XD
In my imagination, it looks really great.

Imma go draw the boys in Darker than Black style and cry over what could have been.

I think not forcing a romance on every single main character would be nice, really.

Ah yes, well, especially the whole "old character design" thing would never happen, even if they rebooted it (which will also never happen haha)...

I agree with you on not forcing a romance - but I also think it's possible for male characters to have meaningful interactions with female characters that are not romantic. Aya meeting somebody that reminds him of his sister, but alive - that could be touching. Reminding him of what he's actually fighting for, on one hand bringing her into the present, but emphasizing that he really hasn't truly seen her in years, and who knows what she's like. Him wanting revenge for her is because she's an object atm. So I don't think that storyline, on it's own, doesn't have potential. But I definitely agree that shoehorned romance for them all is unnecessary.

Oh absolutely, I would love to see more platonic/non-romance relationship between male and female characters, it's just sadly often ignored.
