20. "I would have made a lousy child detective." I don't know why but that made me giggle.

Actually, I am glad you didn't get and were able to enjoy the story. I hated that JK Rowling would give the most over the top names to her characters. Basically laying down their traits even before we, the readers, even get to know them.

Remus Lupin's past has to do something with wolf like things? No, really? Get out of town.

Severus Snape is a grumpy bully? You don't say.

Sirius Black turns into a dog? No way.

I'm glad she gave Harry Potter such a mundane name vesus something, again, over the top like Hero DeJesus.

21. In what way, shape or form are the Fire Nation Japanese based? Everything about them is Chinese based especially from the Tang Dynasty (608-907 a.d.). Their names are Chinese based. How many Japanese "Lee's" do you know? Their clothing, hairstyles and facial hair are all Chinese based. The Chinese call themselves people of the dragon as do the Fire Nation. The Fire Nation do Kung Fu, not Judo or Karate. All of their scrolls are in Chinese.

Again, how are they Japanese?

... Hero deJesus is a way too cool name for a guy like Harry Potter anyway, so maybe it's good that she didn't name him that.

Lol at Hero DeJesus, I read that to my husband because what you wrote sounds like him and he expressed dismay that he hadn't come up with that name himself.

I also didn't get the names and the secret makes me feel so much better about that.

See, I never got the Lupin = wolf connection, because to me, a lupin is a flower. I was all "So he's an itinerant wizard raised by enthusiastic florists. Gotcha."

Oh yeah, and I think the Fire nation = Japan thing comes from little stuff like Zuko's samurai-like topknot in the first season, and... er... well, that's it. The Airbenders are Tibetan monks, the Earth Nation is China, the Water Tribes are Inuit, and the Fire nation is... of no fixed consensus.

The Chinese had top knots as well. Even before the Japanese. Google the Terra Cotta Army. Those clay soldiers are over two thousand years old (210 b.c.) Now the biggest difference between the Japanese and Chinese top knot was that the Japanese shaved the front of their heads in that strange male pattern baldness style. The Chinese did not. The Fire Nation doesn't do this as well save for Zuko and he shaves everything but his his pony tail. That's why I think of the Chinese when I see the top knot. Especially when it's couple by well manicured facial hair.

I'll confess that I know very little about Chinese hair traditions and I pinched the four general consensus-type cultures from TV Tropes.org.
