I just started teaching in Japan last August, and am at two middle schools, and thought I'd be "safe" from thinking any of my students were easy on the eyes because they were all something like 12-14 years old.

Very very wrong. The 3rd years (14/15) generally tower over the first years, their voices have deepened, and they are quite up on the latest fashions and trends, meaning many of them look like they've stepped off the pages of some idol magazine. I dunno, maybe puberty strikes early in Japan.

My major fandom is Prince of Tennis, where the characters are all between 12 and 15 years old and look like they're in their 20s (the 2nd and 3rd years, at least)--this is why, because many Japanese kids DO look like that. It's like they skip their teenage years and go straight to looking 25, then stay that way til they're 50.

WOW.

And here I used to laugh at how PoT portrayed kids only one year apart as having a whole foot of height difference. Knowing it is based on reality is really... disturbing, actually. No wonder they start calling them adults at a much younger age there than over in the US.

Even with Chad being half Mexican, that is really disturbing. D: Dang!
