Snape isn't good because James was bad, but Snape ultimately proved himself to be the hero at the end.

Snape is a morally complex character who has depths that "ultimately proved himself to be the hero at the end" in no way captures

Snape being a hero doesn't mean James wasn't one at the end either. Heroism is also not a zero-sum game. No wonder you all argue so much if you see every character having One True Role
