eh I don't find that terrible sometimes.

it's not like the phrase is false; if you don't say, for instances, overly discriminatory things, even if people try to paint you with a tar brush, they're going to look foolish, not you.

The phrase is a fallacy because it assumes that the only people who have anything to worry about having their privacy compromised and their history dug into are bad people.

This is not true. 'Good' people can be nervous about someone who goes through people's histories and make 'receipt blogs' of anything they've ever said or done and harasses them for it. Because people aren't fucking perfect and have made mistakes, and don't want mistakes they made like five to seven years ago thrown back at them in the present.

That and some people just don't want people looking through everything they've ever said because the very idea is uncomfortable to them even if there's nothing specific that they're worried about. I have nothing to hide (I mean there are things I'm sure people could attack me with if they found them, but I could deal with it if that happened) but I don't want people digging around in my past because I just don't want people paying that much attention to me.

They may look foolish, but when they're also the ones in power, it doesn't really matter, because you're going to get fucked over just as long as some idiot thinks you have something to hide.
