Part of the problem with the character of Albus Dumbledore is we can never really get past Harry's view of him in the first couple of books or Twinklie Richard Harris in the first two movies. I think if you come to Albus Dumbledore (even setting aside that line reading from the Goblet movie) first in one of the later books then you get a much more unfavourable picture, even with the continual Harry-vision of him.
