The first example, is really weird. Maybe he just wants be be unusual (and didn't think being in an open relationship would cut it).

I have unfortunately met lesbians who aren't interested sexually or romantically in women and gay men who aren't sexually or romantically interested in men. I wouldn't say they're common but there are enough for me to start going "aljdliajfdijagldjklgka"

Maybe I just live in a really weird area and I need to find a new town to spend time in.

Women can label themselves however they want because:

Attracted to men? That's okay, you could still be a lesbian! It's just compulsory heterosexuality brainwashing you!

Attracted to women? That's okay, you could still be straight! It's just the male gaze brainwashing you!

Yeah, I've never seen this. I've seen bisexual women inaccurately label themselves as lesbians but never heterosexual women.
