Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark.

Yes, it's exactly as cheesy as you're probably thinking. But it also has a surprisingly fleshed out (I say "surprisingly" because, you know, it's a cheesy sci-fi movie and I generally don't watch those for the well developed characters), strong female lead and I found her relationship with her husband to be genuinely touching. Plus, the husband is played by christopher judge who played teal'c in stargate so you can't go wrong there. And their interactions with their AI program were actually pretty cute.

I like 2-Headed Shark Attack as well, which also had a strong, capable female lead character (played by brooke hogan, lol). Sure, the movie also had some extremely gratuitous scenes of carmen electra sunbathing in a bikini and a scene where two girls randomly start making out with each other in the ocean, but still. There are actually quite a few direct-to-video sci-fi movies out there with female leads who get shit done and I think the genre doesn't get enough credit for that.
