Yup. If you're in a small, closed fandom with a powerfully popular juggernaut pairing, and you write anything other than that OTP, it's rare to hear anything other than crickets no matter how well you write or how deftly you tag or promote it.

Given that situation, I wonder that authors write and post at all. I once got scolded after mentioning that feedback was a motivator; people told me that I should write purely for the love of it, not for anything as base as feedback. And I do still write occasionally, "purely for the love" (because I do love it) - but it stays on my hard drive, because I finally got fed up with listening to crickets.
