TBH they sound kind of entitled to me, because they're so upset they don't get enough attention when they "announce they're taking prompts." (b) is rude, though.

I dunno, I can also see it a being sort of frustrating in the sense you want to have fannish interactions but no-one's interested.

I don't know it's entitlement or just disappointment but like

if you're regularly NOT producing fanfic, you're not going to have the kind of following that's hanging out waiting for you to take prompts. if you're in a big fandom, attention will be split by more active writers, and if you're in a small fandom there's only a few people to start with and a smaller fraction of them will have an idea at the right time and take the initiative to send it. if you want a bunch of prompts to choose from, you're way better off finding a kinkmeme to browse than doing the fandom equivalent of opening a lemonade stand on a rarely-traveled suburban cul-de-sac. Even if your writing/lemonade is great, it won't get much attention.
