You could write the prompts, file off the serial numbers, and sell them as smutty one-shots on Smashwords.

Do people actually buy stuff like that? And... why? I don't mean that in a snotty way, I'm just surprised people would bother when there's tons of free smutty fanfiction.

Yep! Sales aren't astronomical, but there is a market for erotica outside of people who read smutty fanfiction. And it beats doing all that work for nothing in return.

It is the gateway to becoming a mills and boon author. That can be a very lucrative profession indeed if you can stomach the stereotypical rubbish you've got to write completely straight.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-15 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, cause 99% of fanfiction isn't stereotypical rubbish. Get off your high horse.

Oh I know there's a market for erotica, but I was surprised people would pay for relatively short works like a one shot, particularly one that's a fic with the serial numbers filed off. Seems like it'd be just as easy and cheap to read smutty fanfiction.

You'd be amazed what people will pay 99¢ for.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-15 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, I guess so. Dollar stores are a booming business, so I guess dollar porn could be, too.

The majority of people looking for erotica on the internet aren't in fandom, is the thing.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-16 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt but then wouldn't it be easier to just buy your erotica on Amazon? You can get a whole novel's worth for .99, not just a one shot.
