Fun traditions/rituals

(Anonymous) 2016-10-15 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Tonight, at my house, we are having taco night: a randomly occurring night on which we make a new and exciting variety of taco and glory in the taco-yness of it all.

What fun traditions/rituals do you and your family/friends have? Unofficial holidays and the like.

My two best friends from high school and I cook a big meal together every New Year's Eve.

My fiancée and I have a tradition of rough sex followed by burgers and milkshakes.

na

do you eat a different meal when you have a different type of sex or is rough sex the only kind of sex that is followed by a specific meal?

I don't know that I have enough data. Must collect.

It's more that the meal is better preceded with rough sex.

Game night. Just about every other Saturday my parents and I play scrabble. I usually trounce them, though my mother gives me a run for my money most off the time. My poor dad can never beat either of us, but he has fun anyway.

My dad and I always go see nerdy movies together. We have since I was a kid. It was our tradition because we were the two in the family who liked that sort of thing. It is still a tradition whenever we are nearby we will go see whatever nerdy movie is currently playing. Right now, we're just waiting for Doctor Strange and Rogue One.

Your mention of tacos reminds me that it is one of the meals that, even now in my house, has a lot "ritual" around it, because it is never a meal for one person. I mean, a large pan of taco filling, bowls of salad veggies, cheese and sauce get laid out on a table and we sit around and construct our tacos as we eat.

Even Xmas dinner doesn't really have that sort of "communal meal" feel to it anymore.

My sister and I bake each other's birthday cakes. Not any simple stuff - those are the most complicated recepies we know (and tastiest).

Whenever my dad would visit me, we had a Saturday ritual: we'd get up early, buy a paper, and take it to this diner we liked. We'd get blueberry pancakes with a side of ham and do the Saturday New York Times crossword together. But these days he can't leave my mom, and when I visit them we're much too busy to go out for pancakes.
