Whoops, I misread. I thought that YOU were going to write the pleasant fact that makes it a bit better.

I guess the fact that makes it a bit better is that life expectancy is still rising at this point.

Or because some people just don't have a good relationship with their parents.

Well, when my mom died, one thought that comforted me was that the pain I was feeling was universal and either was or would be shared by every person who had ever lived, unless they themselves died before their mother.

By the time I was 23 all my grandparents and my parents had died and I had a similar thought. Something along the lines of, it sucked but at least it's already passed for me. Most people I know still have to go through it. And it's starting to happen now and as horrible as it is, I'm relieved I don't have to worry about it anymore.
