Nat Turner is on the same moral level as a serial killer. Once you slaughter infants in their cribs you're no better than an animal.

This was a reply to the assessment that an individual is justified in their actions because of bad circumstances they lived in. This was not about a group of people. It was about one individual.

It was about an individual who was revolting against slavery. And revolts against slavery are often pretty unpleasant - by the nature of the thing when you keep people chained and in bondage - and so talking about the justification of this slave revolt has broader implications for how we think about slave revolts generally, and action against oppression generally. So I think that saying that the situation that Turner was in has no bearing on how we think of his actions does have broader implications, whether you meant them or not.
