I hate the "trash" thing. I get self-deprecation to some extent, but the whole POINT of fandom spaces is that we can geek out shamelessly over stuff.
IRL I have to explain why I have 13 little figurines of Levi from SNK. In fandom I shouldn't have to apologize for it :|

I really don't read the "trash" thing as self-deprecation. It's more like a rhetorical mode of emphasis, you know? Not that "I'm so terrible for loving this that I'm trash" but "I love this so much that I'm completely besotted with it and would forgive it many sins and don't even care that, from the outside, I might look like someone's stereotype of a mindless fan".
