just block them? it might take a while, but eventually you'll get most of tehm

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
And exist in a perfect bubble of silence?

Sorry bub, one of the good things about fandom is that it teaches you to tolerate stuff in order to interact with others to celebrate the thing you like. An invaluable life skill.

Is a fandom where everyone is a fictionkin better or worse than no fandom at all?

This is a serious question! If OP is really uncomfortable about it, it might be the case that just being in fandom isn't worth it for them. Which sucks, but happens sometimes. I don't think it's the case that putting up with bullshit is always worth it - sometimes it is, and it is an important life skill, but there is a real choice to be made.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
ayrt

yeah, but OP said that the fictionkin blogs genuinely creep them out. I would rather have a quiet fandom experience than a creepy one

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Learning to live with creepy is something that we all need to learn too.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it, though

Is it really

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
And sometimes avoiding creepy is the best solution.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
...why? if you're in an online space that allows you to limit the creepy, then I don't think there's anything wrong with doing that. fandom should be fun, you shouldn't have to force yourself to be uncomfortable when such a thing isn't necessary

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Or we can put mentally ill people like the ones OP is talking about in asylums where they belong.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Fuck yeah. Lets forget about the fact the Us mental health resources are stretched so thin that they're having to use nursing homes to pick up the slack and focus on locking up usually harmless teens. Fantastic and realistic idea, darlin'

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Too bad we can't lock up stupid people and/or unimaginative trolls.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
We lock up stupid people all the time, they are the ones who speak to the cops without a lawyer. Or who do 100kph in a 60 zone, shove it on youtube, and crosspost it to twitter and tag in the local constabulary, with a hash tag of #BreakingTheLaw. Fucking bogans.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-23 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Found the fictionkin.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Well they'll have to share cells with registered democrats, but sure.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-23 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I support this. Anyone who genuinely believes they are a fictional character are really really nuts and need mental help.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It really, really isn't.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL, nah. Just as in real life, you can be selective about what you will or will not put up with in fandom. Learning how to make effective use out of social media settings is an invaluable life skill.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, fuck that. I go to fandom to escape real life, and I will block to my heart's content anyone trying to harsh my squee.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-23 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Same here. The block button is my friend if I want to avoid fandom bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-23 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
LOL no. don't listen to that idiot. block every obnoxious fickin you see and everyone else that annoys you. surely there will be some sane people left over.

the block button exists to make your experience better. use it freely.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Become my friend, anon!

We can suffer together.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-22 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Fictionkins tend I be the nicest people I've met in most of my fandoms personally, but I can see why they'd make some people uncomfortable, I guess.

I second blocking them all to get rid of them.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-23 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
I've had the opposite experience. 90% of fictionkin I've interacted with were incredible wankers, often obsessed with fandom purity and policing how other people do fandom.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-23 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Quick! fight to the death to determine which of your personal experiences is the objective, absolute truth!
