I think that a one-shot might be the best idea for me at the moment. I always get stuck how writing "should" be this elaborate thing and the fics "should" have 2543 chapters long, etc. I just need to get out of my comfort zone and do it.

Writing a one-shot is definitely easier than a chapter fic if you're just starting one.

If you do want to write a chapter fic, though, one thing I find works for me is to put the most fun part, the part that you most want to write at or close to the end. That motivates me to the plotting/development/build up that has to come before the payoff.
