(Anonymous) 2016-10-23 04:55 am (UTC)(link)The 4th one (enter the dragonfly) was a downright mess, but it can be excused because they forced them to release it while in beta for... some reason, not sure but it's not bad for beta. Just very slow and glitchy.
The GBA games were fun but got really tedious after a while, he doesn't do well with isometric view in my opinion, but I can excuse it for giving the world an amazing gif of ripto http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq269/Nanxaimer/GIFs/RIPTOOOOOO_zps2d705d75.gif
I haven't played A New Beginning in a LONG time, and I haven't played whatever comes after that, so I can't really speak for them, but Dawn of the Dragon, with all it's angsty teen mischaracterization, is actually a super fun play. Just... skip the cutscenes and it's fine. Maybe like a 7/10 overall, plus you can have Player 2 join or leave between chapters.
I don't think we'll ever get the original Spyro back, at least not without having some drastic change somewhere, but I think what really makes these games great is their replayability and timelessness. Sure, graphics aren't A+, but if you're a fan, you usually don't care. Ripto's Rage (aka Gateway to Glimmer) will always have a special place in my heart.
TL;DR: newer spyro games are sort of a YMMV deal but the best we can do is enjoy the classics.
