YES, because we need LESS secrets.

And it's fandom related.

This. I wish all the "this isn't a secret" police would just hush and go make a "real" secret if they're so concerned. It's not a huge deal, you guys.

personally I'm just bitter because much more controversial things of mine have gotten failbared while "flight rising is addicting" and "I named a virtual cat after my cat" get through. so either let all of those things through or none...

It's not about content, it's about phrasing. If you send in something that goes [popular show sucks and its fans are morons. period. end of.] it's not going to get posted and it's not because it's controversial, it's because it's not stated as a secret. [popular show sucks and its fans are morons and I wish they'd drop off the face off the earth so I don't have to hear them ever again] has a secret in it.

This cat secret isn't posted as a secret or explained why it is a secret, or even why it is an opinion on an aspect of fandom. It needs at least one of those, preferably the last one, to qualify as a secret. As it is, it is just a tumblr post or twitter update.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-23 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah. It doesn't need those things. Not everything has to broadcast "HEY THIS IS A SECRET AND HERE'S WHY" in ten foot tall flaming letters, we don't have to cater to the lowest common denominator.

pretty sure I quoted that flight rising one almost verbatim and the cat secret does nothing of the sort, as nonny points out

The cat secret is describing something the op did which no one would know unless they told them. It's easy to see why this is a secret to the rest of the world.

The latest NS, "you'd think Buffy would have less of this for a supposedly feminist show" has nothing of the sort in it. What could possibly be a secret there? It's an observation.

sorry, but you're reaching and I notice you are not defending the flight rising one. "it's easy to see why it's a secret" is debatable, people have called it not!secret. the moment we start to make up reasons for why it could be a secret, anything could be a secret.
