Ironic this shows up, I'm trying to do such a thing right now. It's easier to get what I want when I just say it instead of trying with describing the room through the eyes of a character.

This encourages me to keep trying, even if it won't be amazing in layout. I've never written a script before.

There is a free scriptwriting software called Celtx that might help.

It's only partially in script format, but I really like how Gato Gellato (Steven Universe fic) pulled it off. I'd love to see more fics that could make that style work!

Let me just print out some more script fics, I can use them as kindling for the fire I'm burning you at the stake on.

Script fic was a nightmare in fandom; it allowed people who couldn't even write a drabble, one of the lowest bars to fandom participation, to spam hundreds and hundreds of of these things everywhere. I'm glad they died. I know it is nearly Halloween, but FFS please don't bring these fandom zombies back from the dead.

Bitter much?

Woah, chill the fuck out anon.

While I feel you're overreacting here, I'm 100% with you on the script fic hate. *shudders* It's an instant back button for me. The closest to script fic I'm willing to get is epistolary fic written entirely in text message form. And even that's iffy.

With legit stage/camera direction notes and everything? Yeah, I might be into that. It's surprisingly difficult to write, in a way that's very different from the challenges of regular prose.

Dialogue is the best part of fic, so yep, I'm always down for some script fic.

(Anonymous) 2016-10-27 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Fanfiction.net doesn't allow script format, which is one reason why it's not as popular.

But I agree with the secret, script format is great.

It was very, very popular (and fucking awful) which is why they banned it. Though there was also a rumour that big media rights-holders particularly paid attention to script format because it looked like someone was trying to copy their shows. Anyway, if you didn't live through the late 90s/early 00's bad scriptfic deluge, I guess it doesn't induce instant shuddering.

I used to wonder why there wasn't more fic in script form, but apparently it used to be a rampant badfic thing and now there's a stigma (see asshat anon a few comments up). But I've always thought it has its own challenges and would make sense as a popular format.
