Do you think you're good at spotting a lie?

(Anonymous) 2016-10-27 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
And how convincing do you believe you are when you lie?

From personal experience, yes I am. I am also good at lying.

Not at all, on either account. Though now that I think about it, my habit of responding to jokes as if they're serious might be useful here. It could be hard to tell when I've been fooled and when I'm just playing along.

I'm not good at lying because I'm not comfortable doing it and I'm not great at spotting lies from other people either.

Very bad.

However, I'm a decent liar. This is because I'm overly honest most of the time.

For real, my bullshit detector is legit one of my greatest skills. I can pick up on lies/insincerity/disingenuousness in an instant. I even used to think I might be psychic when I was younger.....nope, turns out, growing up in an abusive family just trains you to read people really well.

OTOH, I can't lie at all in a bold-faced way because it embarrasses me for some reason, but I can feign ignorance or innocence easily and willingly. (Also thanks to my family.)

Like, if I had to gain access into a secure facility, I would never don a disguise and bluff my way past security because I know I'd be found out in .25 seconds, but I could sneak in the back door and, if caught, pretend to be someone who came off the street looking for a bathroom and now lost.

I could bluff my way in on a good day, but it's my lack of confidence that might fail me here. But I'm one of those people who an actually sort of mimic people, down to mannerisms and accents, so on a confident day I can get away with pretending to be someone completely different.

I don't know how good I am at spotting others lie, I mean I can tell when my bf or family members are lying but I know them really well so that's not a good barometer when it comes to strangers.

But for myself I'm decent at lying, mostly because I don't actually lie much so when I do people just think I'm telling the truth like always.

I'm terrible at spotting a lie, unless the other person is really bad at lying. I don't think of myself as a terribly trusting person, but the possibility of lying just doesn't occur to me.

I feel like I lie so rarely I don't have a good sense for this, but I'd say I'm pretty good at casual lies?
